Officers hunting missing Michaela Hunter warned her friends that harbouring her from the police is a criminal offence.
The 13-year-old who is described as being vulnerable has been missing from her home in the Yeaman’s Lane area of Lochee for the past 10 days.
Despite the police’s continued efforts, there has been no trace of the St John’s High pupil since she went missing, except an unconfirmed sighting at McDonalds in the Wellgate Centre on Friday.
More than 30 officers are involved in the search and they are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, including the possibility she is being sheltered by someone.
Police also believe Michaela may have left Dundee altogether and may have tried to alter her appearance by cutting or dyeing her hair.
Chief Inspector Suzie Mertes said concern for Michaela’s welfare was increasing as time passed but she stressed there was no evidence to suggest she had come to any harm.
She said, “It is possible that Michaela is still being given shelter and assistance by friends or associates.
“I would urge parents to talk to their children and to check bedrooms to make sure that Michaela isn’t hiding there. Anyone who is caught ‘harbouring’ Michaela needs to know that they are committing a criminal offence by doing so.”
Michaela is around 5ft, and of slim build. She has brown eyes and long brown hair.
She was last seen wearing black trousers, a white shirt, a black cardigan, and a grey and pink coloured jacket but may have since changed her clothing. Anyone who has seen her since April 19 can call the police on 0300 111 2222.
