Dundee University is leading a major new project to help tackle big data challenges.
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council has identified four key biosciences ‘big data’ challenges, with £7.5 million invested in new infrastructure to tackle them.
The new funding will improve the storage and curation of enormous datasets that will unlock untold discoveries in important areas like health, agriculture and sustainable fuels.
A project led by Professor Jason Swedlow at Dundee University has been awarded £1.79 million to build a next generation image repository, allowing access for scientists and the public around the world to genome-scale imaging data.
Professor Swedlow and his open microscopy environment team in the college of life sciences will work with the European Bioinformatics Institute and Cambridge University to create a next generation image data resource to host, serve and make available original scientific image data that underpins life sciences research.
