Mum who lost daughter in Kingsway accident backs lowered speed limit

A mother whose teenage daughter was killed on Dundee’s Kingsway dual carriageway says new speed limit restrictions on the road do not go far enough.
Margaret Davidson’s 13-year-old daughter Lynne died in April 1987 after being hit by a car as she crossed the road, which at the time had a 70mph limit.
The tragedy prompted the Dryburgh mum to campaign for the entire Kingsway speed limit to be reduced to 40mph, which she was told by traffic bosses at the time “wasn’t feasible”.
Mrs Davidson’s fresh appeal comes a week after the section of the road between the Forfar roundabout and Tesco Kingsway West was reduced from 50mph to 40mph a decision that has angered many motorists.
The 74-year-old believes the whole of the Kingsway should have a 40mph limit. She said: “Surely a wee bit of disturbance is better than killing a kid?”
Mrs Davidson said any coverage of the road’s speed limit reignites painful memories of her daughter’s death 28 years ago.
