Work to restore the dilapidated mosaic paving in Tay Square outside Dundee Rep is due to start within days, the city council has confirmed.
West End councillor Fraser Macpherson was alerted to the state of the mosaic by residents and by his SNP colleague Willie Wilson, depute provost of Perth and Kinross, who had spotted it during a visit.
He took up the matter with the director of city development, who said, “I can confirm that as part of the public realm improvements recently completed in South Tay Street, it is planned to undertake repairs to the damaged mosaic paving in Tay Square.
“An artist has been commissioned to carry out the repairs and this work is scheduled to commence on Thursday. It is anticipated that the works will take one week to complete although this is weather dependent.”
Mr Macpherson said, “From time to time the mosaic has required repair and it needed maintenance in 2006.
“I’m very pleased at the response from the director of city development, as we have the Rep and the DCA in the cultural quarter and a vibrant social community there.
“It’s an area that attracts visitors to the city, so it’s good to see it being properly maintained.”
