A young Dundee man who has spent years battling leukaemia set the paparazzi aflutter when he was given a kiss and a hug by pop goddess Lady Gaga.
Cameron Forbes (20), known as Cammie, met the star after being whisked to a concert by the singer in London thanks to the Willow Foundation.
Set up by former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his wife Megs, the charity provides special days out for seriously ill people aged 16 to 40.
Cammie was joined by his sister Libby for the trip and the pair received VIP treatment throughout the day. After being collected by chauffeur from King’s Cross station, they were put up in a luxury hotel overlooking the River Thames.
At Lady Gaga’s concert at the O2 Arena they were invited backstage to meet the star and watched the concert from some of the best seats in the house.
Cammie is now in remission but has spent many years enduring tough treatment for leukaemia, during which time Libby has always been by his side.
Despite his illness Cammie has also started up his own businesses supplying restaurants with home-grown vegetables and fresh eggs from his 26 hens.
“It was really cool, Lady Gaga was really friendly and funny she called her fans ‘little monsters’,” he said. “When I first saw her she gave me a kiss and a big hug and the concert was brilliant.”
Bob Wilson said, “It means so much that we can give Cammie a treat like this and a memory that will stay with him forever.”
To date the Willow Foundation has provided more than 6500 days out to people living with not just leukaemia but all types of cancer, cystic fibrosis, motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy, organ failure and Huntington’s disease among others.
