Defiant travellers showed no signs of moving from their campsite off Riverside Drive despite an ongoing legal bid by the landowners to oust them.

Around 30 vehicles, including caravans and vans, have been at the former Scottish Water premises near Dundee Airport since last Monday, and tents have also been pitched on grass beside the building’s car park.

Children and dogs were seen running around the site when visited by The Courier on Tuesday night.

Site owners Welcome Estate’s Ltd are taking legal action to have the travellers removed.

The firm is in discussions to implement security measures to stop the group returning to the site when they are moved on.

Dundee Airport staff have lodged a complaint with police because of fears that litter could interfere with flights.

A council rapid response team was deployed this week to clear up rubbish dumped at the site.

Dr Colin Clark of Strathclyde University, an expert on travellers, said most just wanted to find work, raise children and “get on with their lives quietly,” adding, “Fear is only broken down by education getting to know one another and looking for what we have in common rather than the differences.”
