Travellers abandoned their illegal camp off Riverside Drive yesterday after being served with a notice to quit.
Vehicles began to leave the site at the former Scottish Water premises near Dundee Airport in the late afternoon, overseen by a police squad car and mobile CCTV unit.
By early evening, only an abandoned caravan and transit van remained of the 30 or so vehicles that had been camped there since last Monday.
It is understood the travellers were served with a letter on behalf of the site owners Welcome Estates Ltd, requesting that they vacate the site by 5pm.
The notice would have allowed the police to evict the travellers from the land if they had failed to move.
A clean-up operation is expected to take place today to remove piles of litter left at the site.
Gas canisters, a car seat and bags of underwear and household rubbish were strewn around the land vacated by the travellers.
Welcome Estates Ltd are in discussions to secure the site against future encampments.
Dundee Airport staff lodged a complaint with police, because of fears that litter could interfere with flights.
The encampment was one of the biggest seen in the city this year and the council rapid response team was deployed this week to clear up rubbish dumped at the site.
