Owners agree to clear bushes from former nursery

The owners of a former plant nursery site in Dundee’s West End have confirmed a tidy-up of bushes will take place “within the next few weeks.”

The former James Laurie & Son Nursery off Perth Road has been on the market for several years, and local councillor Fraser MacPherson had expressed concern at the overgrown state of the area.

Lloyd Garvie, a director of Laurencekirk firm Craigallan Homes which owns the site under the name of Signature Homes (Scotland) Ltd said the council itself “don’t seem to have any problem,” and that any calls for enforcement seemed to lie with Councillor MacPherson.

Mr Garvie said, “There are some bushes on the site which don’t appear to be growing out more than any other gardens on the Perth Road.

“But, within the next few weeks we intend to get someone to cut the bushes back. We have also asked (marketing agent) Ryden to have their for sale sign repaired as it appears to have been vandalised.”

In May, Mr MacPherson contacted the council’s planning enforcement officer about the site and a letter was sent to the owners asking for remedial work to be carried out.

In Monday’s Courier, he said he had been back in touch with the officer “asking that the matter continue to be pursued” due to a lack of progress.

However, Mr Garvie said he had been unaware of any such correspondence and was made aware of The Courier article by a co-director.

Mr Garvie said there were “several parties” looking at the site.

He said, “We owned the site prior to getting the planning consent … The housing market appears to be not in the best of health so it’s been a longer process in marketing the site than we would have liked.”
