Consumers in Dundee are now able to see how food retailers and caterers are performing, thanks to a new food hygiene section of Dundee City Council’s website.
The scheme applies to approximately 1100 establishments throughout Dundee but as yet only a fraction have had their results published.
Craig Melville, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s environment services committee, said, “The website is basically so consumers can have a better knowledge of the food being served to them.
“Money was made available to the council through the Food Standards Agency and the scheme started in Lochee.
“It started in the west and will go through the eight council wards to the east. By the summer it should be across the city into the Ferry.”
Food businesses must display their most recent hygiene inspection certificate in a prominent position, either on the front door or in an adjacent window.
On the website, premises are classed as “pass,” “improvement required,” “exempt premises” or “awaiting inspection.”
