Air operators CityJet say they remain committed to the Dundee-to-London service, even though it is making a loss.
Imminent changes to the timetable for flights between Dundee Airport and London City Airport have been causing concern as they would prevent business users getting to early-morning meetings in either city.
CityJet has said the high cost of using London City at peak times has been a factor in the changes but has undertaken to look at the timetable again in light of representations made to it.
Representatives of Dundee Airport operators Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), CityJet and the city council met in Dundee on Friday to discuss the issue.
A CityJet spokesman said it had been a constructive meeting at which a number of suggestions for modifying the timetable were put forward by the council and HIAL. He said reservations had been expressed about the new schedule, with particular reference to how it would affect business users.
“We have noted the points raised and we agreed to get back as soon as possible after we have considered the suggested modifications,” he said.
“We will look at how the proposed schedule could be modified to benefit the community in Dundee while at the same time meeting our objectives to turn this route from loss-making into profit.
“CityJet are fully committed to the route and we hope we can work with the local representative bodies to provide a service that meets their requirements.”
Commenters to this site have already expressed their concerns about the CityJet timetable changes.
One told us, “As a regular user of this service I will find the new morning schedule totally unworkable — easyJet and Edinburgh here I come.”
Another added, “With airport parking charges, spiralling flight costs and now useless flight times, Dundee airport is just not an option anymore. Shame, it used to be a good service and I didn’t mind the extra expense for the benefit of flying from my home town. Now it is just not an option.”
