Dundee College is about the enter one of the busiest times in its history.
The £48 million redevelopment of its Gardyne Road campus is on target for completion in early summer and the college is already preparing for the transfer of thousands of students and staff to their new home.
The college is closing and selling off its Constitution Road, Melrose Terrace and Graham Street buildings to concentrate at just two sites, Gardyne Road and Kingsway.
Deputy principal Grant Ritchie said, “The remaining weeks of the 2010/11 session and the summer leading up to September 2011 may turn out to be one of the busiest and most exciting periods in Dundee College’s history.
“The construction work is still on course for Gardyne to be completed by mid-May and we are rapidly approaching the time when the closure of Graham Street, Melrose Terrace and Constitution Road becomes reality.”
Mr Ritchie admitted the scale of the move is daunting. The college will have to shift 3000 full-time students, 12,000 part-time students and 200 staff — not to mention a host of equipment, files and library resources.
“At the same time, we will also be transferring a number of staff from Constitution Road to Kingsway, and moving other staff within Kingsway to make space for them,” he added.
“All of this work needs to be planned, communicated, tested, and executed with care and precision. I am confident, however, that by keeping staff as up to date as possible, working together, dealing with situations on a cool and professional manner, and remembering that respect is one of the college’s key values, Dundee College will meet the challenge that the big move presents.”
