If you would like to know how to keep your heating bills down, Dundee College may have the course for you.
This month it will run a two-day introduction to renewable energy, covering the technologies available and their costs and benefits.
Business adviser Neil Bowie said, “This course may not save the planet, but it could make savings in purses and pockets.
“People who complete the programme will be able to assess premises and identify appropriate renewable energy strategies.”
Solar energy, wind power, micro-hydro systems, biomass, heat pumps and energy efficiency will all be covered and the course is aimed at anyone who wants a basic understanding of the topic.
That includes householders interested in finding out if they can cut their energy bills by installing equipment, along with housing developers and housing association and local authority staff.
Mr Bowie said, “We have already had some interest from an estate agent who aims to assess properties and identify additional selling points in terms of fuel and energy usage.
“Likewise, small businesses in the area are keen to identify the best options for reducing energy costs.”
The course, which runs on January 20 and 27, is eligible for Independent Learning Account funding. More details are available by calling 01382 834874.
The college has a new programme of full-time courses starting next month, including vehicle maintenance, management, travel and tourism, fashion retailing, art and design and accounting.
The list includes a professional cookery programme at SVQ level three, which will allow for a supervisory level in a kitchen workplace.
Chef lecturer Russell Walker said, “There are a lot of people in the Dundee area that already have the level two qualification and are keen to move on.
“Students who enrol for this programme will have to show real commitment, as to complete the course in just six months entails them coming in Monday to Friday and attending two twilight classes each week.”
