The funeral of Dundee marathon runner, community leader and older folk’s inspiration Jenny Wood Allen took place at Douglas and Mid-Craigie Parish Church, Dundee, on Wednesday.
Jenny passed away after an action-packed life on December 30, aged 99.
Minister Edith McMillan told the congregation that Jenny had been a pillar of the Douglas community from the beginning of the scheme and had given her time to the church, as well as drama and disabled groups.
She said, “She and her contemporaries built up this church because they wanted the place to have a community and good community spirit from the very beginning.
“She really was a stalwart of the Douglas and Angus community, as well as being proud of being from Dundee.”
Her sons Kenneth and Alistair also spoke about their mother’s life, while long-time friend Margaret Davidson spoke about Jenny’s running exploits and the encouragement she gave to others.
The funeral was also attended by Lord Provost John Letford.
Former councillor Jenny became an icon for older people after taking part in London Marathons in her 70s, 80s and at the age of 90.
She took part in the 1983 Dundee Marathon at the age of 71.
In 2002, she entered The Guinness Book Of Records for being the oldest female marathon runner in the world, aged 90.
