DOUGIE NICOLSON, COURIER, 20/01/11, NEWS. DATE - Thursday 20th January 2011. LOCATION - Bonar Hall, Dundee. EVENT - Motivational talk. INFO - 'The Apprentice' contestant Joanna Reilly before her talk. STORY BY - Jonny Watson, Reporters.

She may have been fired by Lord Sugar but Apprentice star Joanna Riley proved how business savvy she was as she gave advice to budding entrepreneurs during a visit to Dundee.

The cleaning company owner, who last year reached the final four of the BBC television series, said she understood how difficult life was for small companies in the current economic climate but urged those who wanted to succeed in business to follow their dreams.

She said, “Things are difficult right now but people have to make the most of what they have.

“If people work hard, keep dedicated and passionate then they can achieve anything.”

Ms Riley, who left school at the age of 16 with no qualifications, addressed a packed audience of people keen to hear her story.

In one of the most memorable moments from last year’s series, Lord Sugar stated that Joanna left the process with “her head held high” after outlasting candidates with much stronger CVs.

Her appearance at the Bonar Hall on Thursday night was organised in conjunction with Business Gateway as a means of encouraging people to get involved in private enterprise.
