Dundonians thought they had struck it rich after an ATM started paying out double money.
Dozens queued at the cash machine next to the Scotmid Co-op store on Fintry Road as word of the generous distributor spread.
Although it is unknown how long the machine may have been malfunctioning, it is thought that thousands of pounds could have been handed out by mistake.
Police attended the scene at around 4.50pm, with those queuing said to be “well ordered.” It was also confirmed that no arrests had been made.
Although not directly connected to the Scotmid store, it is thought that staff there raised the alarm after becoming concerned at the growing crowds.
The ATM was eventually shut down by operators after being contacted by police.Cash machine owner Bank Machine Ltd has confirmed no one will have to pay any of the money back, saying it was “just one of those things”. It appears the money had been loaded incorrectly, something which happens very rarely, managing director Ron Delnevo said.Photo by Flickr user catatronic.
