Prostitutes and drug dealers are blatantly operating in flats in a prominent West End street in Dundee, worried residents say.
Two prostitutes are said to be working from a flat near the bottom of Peddie Street while two others use another flat near the top of the same street.
Meanwhile, the once-proud street is full of druggies, a resident in the area said.
He said, “I’ve spoken to the police loads of times about this. There are prostitutes in one of the closes near the bottom and another two at the top, overlooking the pub across the road.
“And the drug dealers and druggies living in the street, it’s ridiculous, we shouldn’t be having to put up with this.
“You see people at the door of the flats all the time and people arrive in cars at every hour. The police know about this but they don’t seem to be able to do anything about it.”
The residents’ claims have been passed on to the new chairman of West End Community Council, Andrew McBride, who in turn has contacted Tayside Police with his concerns.
“It’s been brought to my attention that it’s a problem,” he said.
“I don’t want this area getting the same reputation as places like Stobswell and Broughty Ferry Road where it seemed that nothing was happening despite the efforts of the council and the police etc.
“As a Courier reader I’m aware that they have not dealt with the problem there totally and I’m somewhat alarmed to hear that there is similar anti-social behaviour going on in the West End.
“It’s not something that we should be part of and I’ll be seeking reassurances from the police that they are dealing with this.
“I would also hope that a representative of Tayside Police will be attending the next meeting of the community council to hear our concerns.”
A Tayside Police spokesman said they were aware of “certain issues” in the area and confirmed the matter was under investigation.
“We can also confirm that, as is routine, there will be a Tayside Police presence at the forthcoming meeting of the community council.”
The meeting is on April 12 at Logie and St John’s Cross Church.
