Dundee commuters are facing delays after major roadworks were announced on one of the city’s busiest routes.
Part of the A92 Arbroath Road will be shut between the Scott Fyffe roundabout and the Claypotts junction for five days from Monday for resurfacing.
It is part of Dundee City Council’s scheme to fix the damage caused to roads by the Arctic conditions that struck Scotland in November and lasted right through the winter months.
A major drive was launched by the local authority at the turn of the year to repair the roads, with tens of thousands of potholes being filled in.
The busy Arbroath Road will be reduced to one carriageway heading west into Dundee while the work is carried out, with any traffic going east diverted through Douglas and Whitfield.
The trunk road is especially busy at morning and tea times, with commuters heading in and out of the city from Broughty Ferry, Monifieth, Carnoustie and Arbroath.
“Tayside Contracts will be resurfacing the carriageway,” said a spokesman for the council. “The road will be down to one lane westbound, with eastbound traffic following a diversion via Drumgeith Road.
“The works are taking place to repair parts of the road damaged by the winter weather.”
Drivers going in and out of Dundee from Fife are negotiating improvements to the A92 Station Brae and Inverdovat junctions in Newport.
The £20,000 works form phase 1 of a scheme that will see safety improvements made to the two trunk road dual carriageway junctions over a two-week period.
The full scheme, involving more substantial works, will continue when funding is available.
At Station Brae there is a ban on southbound right-turn movements into Station Brae from the A92, whilst at the Inverdovat junction straight-ahead movements are not permitted from either St Leonard’s Road or Newtyle Road.
The roadworks to implement the changes are taking place between 9.30am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Temporary traffic management, including lane closures, is in place during these times but is being removed from the A92 during peak traffic hours to minimise delays.
