Dundee police have issued a description of the man who brutally attacked a 22-year-old woman in a city centre pub a month ago, but are not releasing his photograph to help to catch him.

They have a close-up picture of the attacker taken from The Social’s CCTV system but are not releasing it to The Courier for publication as it doesn’t meet Crown Office criteria for issuing pictures of crime suspects.

These guidelines recommend that only unsolved cases of a more serious nature, where the victim suffers more severe injuries, should be considered for release to the media and that the time taken to reach a breakthrough should not be a consideration.

Tayside Police have, however, issued a description of the suspect.

The man responsible is described as being between 20 and 25 years old, and 5ft 7in, with short fair. He was wearing a beige T-shirt and dark jeans.

Rory Weller, of the G1 Group, which owns The Social, said, “We are working closely with the police and are doing what we are instructed to do.

“This unfortunate incident is in no way usual in one of our venues.

“We ourselves legally can’t release an image (to the media) in a case like this without the permission of the police and the Crown Office, and are bound by their instructions.”
