Ancient Mason Lodge of Dundee No. 49 holding open day to ‘dispel myths’

A Dundee Masonic lodge will open to the public at the weekend to “dispel myths.”
The Ancient Mason Lodge of Dundee No. 49 will host an open day at Artillery Lane on Saturday, which one official hopes will clarify the group’s workings.
Lodge pastmaster Alex Marr believes the public can confuse Freemasonry with religious groups, particularly the Orange Order.
Mr Marr hopes misconceptions can be laid to rest by allowing members of the public to enter the lodge.
“This has been on my mind for a long time,” he said. “We want to get away from the stigma of the Orange Lodge as we are two separate things.
“We accept anyone from any religion because we are not a religious group.”
He added, “The lodge will be laid out exactly as it would be when its members use it. The public can come in and ask questions and I’ll do everything I can to answer them.
“We’re not trying to promote Freemasonry at all but we just want to dispel a few myths about it.”
The 7 Artillery Lane premises will be open from 11am on July 2.
