A plan for a restaurant in the heart of Dundee’s student area has been granted conditional approval.
Council planners have given the all-clear in principle to an application, lodged by Atholl Pension, for a restaurant with an outdoor eating area on Perth Road, opposite Dundee University.
The listed building at 2, 4 and 8 Perth Road was used as office space, but a six-figure sum will be invested to fund its renovations, which are expected to begin in the coming months.
A key feature in the applicant’s blueprint is space for outdoor terracing at the corner of Seabraes Lane where food and drink can be served.
Ged Young, project architect for the agent AIM Architecture Interiors Media, said, “It will bring some much-needed south-facing al fresco eating which will benefit the Perth Road area.
“Because the outdoor terracing is south-facing it means it will catch the sunlight for most of the day.”
Mr Young said that £175,000 is expected to be spent on completing the “shell work” of the building, although it is not yet clear how much money will need to be spent on internal alterations for the restaurant.
Once the work is complete the applicant’s plan is to lease out the business, which has been named The Terrace.
