Young Polish footballers living in Dundee have predicted Slask Wroclaw will end Dundee United’s European dream tonight.
Tomasz Garbacz (27), Jakub Gabrych (28) and 20-year-old Marek Ciepacz, who all play for amateur team FC Polonia in the city, predict their countrymen will grab a 1-1 draw tonight, meaning United would crash out of Europe on aggregate, having lost the first leg in Poland 1-0.
All three are going to cheer on Slask, although Marek confessed his reasons weren’t exactly nationalistic revealing he wants them to beat the Terrors as he is a fervent Dundee FC fan.
Marek, who works with Strathmore Foods in Forfar said, “I am a Slask fan but I support FC Dundee over here, not Dundee United. I think it will be 1-1 tonight and United will go out.”
Tomasz, a monumental mason with Middleton Memorials in Dundee, agreed with the scoreline prediction but said he was merely going to the game to give support to the Polish team.
“I’m not a great football supporter but if I was asked which SPL team I like it would be Dundee United.”
Jakub, who works with QV Foods in Inchture, decided to kit himself out in United gear to wind up his countrymen. He, too, reckons the final aggregate score will end up in a 2-1 margin for Slask, although he isn’t a fan.
“Obviously I want the Polish team to win but I’m not really a football supporter. I prefer playing it but I am going to the game.”
Jakub admitted, though, it might not be wise to wear the United gear in the Slask Wroclaw end at Tannadice.
