A lost memento of a special family day has been reunited with its owner, thanks to The Courier.
Ann Ingram from Dundee contacted The Courier web team after seeing a police appeal on our Facebook page.
The item, a silver engraved hip flask, was instantly recognisable to Ann after she had presented it to Ross Anderson, godfather to her daughter Zoe, six months before.
Ross lost the gift soon after taking charge of it, and Ann had accepted that it had disappeared for good.
But when she loged on to her Facebook account last week, she received a very welcome surprise.
We had shared the police appeal on our Facebook page, and it was there that Ann saw it.
”It came up on my homepage because The Courier group was one that I had ‘liked’ before,” she said. ”The picture appeared in my news feed and I recognised it straight away.
”We gave the flask to Ross as a gift for my daughter’s christening in May. We gave it to him to say thanks for taking on the responsibility of being Zoe’s godfather.
”I was quite upset when it was lost as a lot of thought had gone into the present.”
Ross thought he had misplaced the flask or possibly left it in a taxi following the christening celebration.
”I phoned the police and the taxi company and neither of them knew anything so I just thought it was lost,” Ann said. ”But I was very excited when I saw the appeal on Facebook.
”At first he thought he left it at our house but I knew it must have been elsewhere. The police said that it was handed in by a woman and Ross did have a lady taxi driver on the night that he lost it.”
A police spokeswoman said: ”We are delighted that the rightful owner has contacted us after seeing our appeal on the Courier’s Facebook page.
”The quick response is proof of the positive relationship that the force has with the press and evidence of the currency of social media.
”Tayside Police uses a wide variety of media, from the print and electronic media to social media networks used by ourselves, our partners and the press, to publicise the work we do, highlight issues of concern and make appeals to the public.”Missing out on the fun?
