A Dundee pensioners group has promised further protests against high energy prices following a demonstration earlier this week.
Around a dozen members of the Dundee Pensioners Forum were asked to leave the Wellgate Centre by police and security staff on Monday after holding a protest (link).
Having been asked to leave after their peaceful gathering, the group gathered at the centre’s north entrance to hand out leaflets.
Members are keen to conduct more protests in the coming weeks to make their concerns known.
Forum chairman Jim McAulay said: ”There will be follow-up protests. Everyone I have spoken to has been supportive of what we did on Monday.”
He added: ”I went to the bowling club and everybody was speaking about the price of gas and petrol and how expensive it is.
”We have a meeting on the first Tuesday of next month where it will be discussed but we’ll keep the protests going on for as long as we can.”
As well as campaigning against the cost of energy bills, members of the forum have also stated their anger at the cutting of their heating allowance.
Committee member Erik Cramb called the situation ”an assault” against pensioners earlier this week, with many struggling to find the money to heat their homes.
