A man has been charged after a children’s charity bucket went missing from a Dundee bank on Friday.
Police said a male suspect was in custody and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
The man is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today in connection with the alleged theft and related crimes in the city centre.
A woman is still being sought by police in connection with the incident where a male and female entered the Royal Bank of Scotland in High Street between 4pm and 4.30pm on Friday.
Police had issued an appeal for witnesses after the incident in which the charity bin was alegedly stolen. A spokesman said the yellow bucket with white lid belonged to Kean’s Children’s Fund.
Police are asking the public to get in contact if they either find the bucket or see any person collecting with it in the street.
Charlie Kean, founder of Kean’s Children’s Fund, confirmed the charity buckets are never used for mobile collections. They are kept in places of business only.
Supported by local people, Mr Kean has raised over £500,000 for the charity to help under-privileged and terminally ill children.
This specific charity bucket’s funds were to go towards the Christmas dreams for terminally ill children in Dundee and Scotland.
The woman being sought by police is believed to be in her mid-20s and, along with the male, was said by police to be behaving in a rowdy manner which may remind some customers of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01382 111 2222 or any officer.
