Community council confirms opposition to plan for new hotel in Broughty Ferry

Broughty Ferry Community Council has formally objected to an ”unashamedly modern” hotel plan.
In a letter to Dundee City Council planning officer Paul Macari, the community body sets out eight points of objection over Broomvale Ltd’s application.
The firm, which also runs the Gullistan Indian restaurant, wants to demolish an old cottage on the west side of the library in Queen Street to make way for a 22-bedroom hotel.
If given the go-ahead, the structure will measure four storeys at its front and just a single storey at its rear where it will be built into the hillside off Camphill Road.
A plan for a 23-bedroom hotel and health spa on the same site was turned down last year on the grounds that the design was out of character with the surroundings in the Forthill Conservation Area.
This time round Dr David Hewick, who is the planning secretary for the community council, says the same concerns remain.
In a letter to the local authority on behalf of the community council, he stated: ”This proposal will be an over-development.”
Dundee City Council has set a determination date for the application of April 14.
