‘The area’s full of pirates’ Lochee scrap metal dealer’s truck stolen in raid

A Dundee scrap dealer says he was sickened to find thieves had smashed their way into his locked garage to steal a truck.
Micky Phinn, of Lochee Car Disposal, was left furious at the damage carried out in the raid, which took place between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
After lifting the metal gate off its hinges with a jack, the thieves broke into an office, stole keys to the garage and drove off with the £6,000 tow-truck.
Micky said: ”There’s always scrap going missing in the area. The thieves are desperate. They burst the gates off, burst into the portable building and got the keys.”
He is used to having to deal with scrap being stolen, but said losing a lorry left him feeling ”sick”.
”The area’s full of pirates and scrap metal merchants with no licences and no qualifications to do the job,” he added.
Tayside Police appealed for any witnesses to the raid on the Lochee yard to come forward, and asked anyone with information to call 01382 111 2222 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
