Let there be light! early Tayside House demolition work starts to open up new vistas

Another milestone in the redevelopment of Dundee’s waterfront has been reached.
Demolition work on the podium block next to Tayside House and behind the Caird Hall is well under way, with heavy machinery being used to raze the structure.
The work is already starting to restore light to an area which has been covered by the shadows of surrounding buildings for so long.
It is the latest step in the massive regeneration project, which has seen roads around the Tay Bridge area realigned and the footbridge over South Marketgait removed.
City development convener Will Dawson said: “Everything seems to be on track. It’s good to see the work starting and it’s going to be yet another change to the city skyline.
”Once these things get started then people really believe that they are happening.
”The bridge coming down was a big moment and the rig has also been out on the Tay for the V&A. It’s good to see that everyone is taking an interest in the project.”
