CityJet has increased the number of flights between Dundee and London at the start of the week.
The move has been welcomed by Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce chief executive Alan Mitchell, who called on the business community to ”use or lose” the new services.
CityJet withdrew early-morning, start-of-the-week flights around a year ago because of low demand, and the company’s depute chief executive Michael Collins visited Dundee to urge the air travelling community to support the route.
Its 30-seat Dorners were replaced by 50-seat Fokkers to give more capacity but reduced frequency, and passenger levels improved.
CityJet has now brought back the Dorners to a new timetable with greater start-of-week frequency. The new timetable started on Monday.
The airline has also reduced its rotations on a Friday from three to two, following low demand for the mid-afternoon flight.
CityJet said the changes show the company has listened to the community and adapted its summer schedule to enable passengers to travel at times that suit them most.
Christine Ourmires, CityJet chief executive, said: ”We’ve always ensured that we maintained an open line of communication with the Dundee community, listening to what our passengers in the Tayside region want from the CityJet service to London City and it appears there is more demand for flights on a Sunday and Monday morning.”
She continued: ”The demand for an increased frequency at these crucial times has prompted some changes to the CityJet schedule, which will only benefit the community in Dundee that use this service.”
Mr Mitchell said there have been discussions between the chambers of Dundee and Angus, Perthshire and Fife and CityJet on the frequency and affordabililty of the flights.
He said: ”The new flights at the start of the week are a positive development which we welcome, and it is now important for the business community take advantage of the new opportunities to fly between Dundee and London because we don’t want to tun the risk of losing these flights again.”
