A decision on whether a Dundee bar will be allowed to continue selling alcohol is to be taken in June.
Members of the city’s licensing board deferred a decision on whether or not to take action against the Bush Bar in the Seagate after guarantees were given over its future running.
Tayside Police had raised concerns over the establishment, citing drinking on the premises outside permitted hours and a lack of staff cooperation following incidents in the pub.
In a letter to the board, Chief Inspector Shaun McKillop said: ”These premises are causing Tayside Police a significant amount of concern. Visits to discuss the problems have proved fruitless.
”What I find most disturbing is what appears to be the flagrant disregard for the licensing hours, and the lack of control/supervision of both staff and customers alike.”
Janet Hood, representing the Bush Bar, told board members the management were ”ashamed” of the decision to serve alcohol outside permitted hours and added steps to improve staff training and security on the premises were under way.
In relation to one fight on the premises, she said: ”Staff did all that they could to prevent the incident getting out of hand.”
She also warned that the business would struggle to survive if its licence to sell alcohol was suspended.
Despite a suggestion from Councillor Kevin Keenan to move for a suspension of the licence, members agreed to defer a decision until the summer.
Rod Wallace, convener, said: ” I have no desire to do people out of a livelihood.”
He added: ”I am prepared to recommend that this matter continues at the June board meeting.”
