There will be more motoring headaches for drivers in Dundee from today as another city centre road closes.
A section of Whitehall Crescent will be sealed off to traffic for the next four weeks to allow for resurfacing work to take place.
The work, another piece of the waterfront regeneration, will involve a section of road between Union Street and Whitehall Street.
Buses will continue to run but will be diverted via Union Street, High Street and Crichton Street, before heading westbound along Whitehall Crescent and into Whitehall Street.
The current one-way system is to be reversed as the work is undertaken, meaning that all other vehicles will be able to travel westbound on Whitehall Crescent from Crichton Street en route to Whitehall Street.
Access to pedestrians is to remain open throughout the works.
Once completed, traffic on Whitehall Crescent will be two-way between Union Street and Whitehall Street, and westbound only between Crichton Street and Whitehall Street.
Tayside Police have asked drivers to be patient during the disruption, with traffic inspector Gordon Taylor saying: ”We appreciate the frustration for road users but to date people have been compliant with diversion signs and we would ask for their continued patience.”
The roadworks will be the latest in the area as regeneration of Dundee’s waterfront continues.
Off-peak lane closures were introduced on South Marketgait back in January and will continue to have an impact on traffic travelling on routes around the Riverside roundabout.
These closures have allowed demolition work to begin in and around Tayside House with the pedestrian walkway between the former council offices and the Olympia leisure centre already having been removed.
A fortnight ago saw heavy machinery begin work on removing the podium block adjoining the vacant tower as work on the project accelerated.
Work to demolish Tayside House itself is to begin later this year.
