Broughty Ferry beach ready to reclaim its Blue Flag

Broughty Ferry beach is set to regain its coveted Blue Flag status after losing the accolade last year.
The sands east of Broughty Castle failed to achieve the required water quality following freakish weather in 2010.
Fresh readings have shown the beach is on track to win back its Blue Flag later this month.
Dundee City Council decided to reapply for the status after water quality results taken last year.
The news is particularly encouraging as Keep Scotland Beautiful, which runs the Blue Flag scheme, said even stricter European water standards coming into force this year meant there was little point in the city council applying again.
Ferry councillor Rod Wallace said winning back the status would be an additional boost to efforts to increase tourism.
”Visitors who don’t know the area that well can look it up and see that it has Blue Flag status,” he said. ”The new 12-month trial rail service to the Ferry will also more than likely be looked at over the summer.”
