A man who was convicted of being the owner of two dogs which mauled a young girl in Dundee almost two years ago has been released from jail pending appeal.
Derek Adam (39) was jailed for a year by Sheriff Davidson in December and banned from keeping dogs for life.
Adam’s legal team had lodged a notice with the Crown Office in February and the appeal against his conviction will be heard before Law Lords at the High Court in Edinburgh. No date has yet been set for the hearing.
A jury found Adam guilty in December of being the owner of the rottweilers, Big Boy or Fat Boy and Pretty Girl, which on August 29 2010 were dangerously out of control and mauled another dog and a child, who was repeatedly bitten and mauled to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Adam was also found guilty of failing to comply with an order to keep the dogs under proper control.
His legal team confirmed he had been released.
The jury took 40 minutes to find Adam, of Lintrathen Street, guilty.
