A man who suffered stab wounds left hospital of his own accord just a few hours later, police say.
The 23-year-old, who was taken to Ninewells Hospital about teatime on Saturday after begging for help from a householder as he was ”bleeding too much”, was not seriously injured and discharged himself the same evening.
He had earlier turned up at Theresa Smith’s home in Brown Constable Street covered in blood from head and body injuries and she called an ambulance to take him to hospital.
Police swooped on the area and carried out extensive inquiries into the attack, which happened in broad daylight in three separate streets.
Ward councillor Georgia Cruickshank backed police to take a strong line against knife crime in the Stobswell area after the shocking 4.20pm incident.
She said she was ”sickened to the stomach” by the vicious attack, which took place in Victoria Street, Brown Constable Street and Callander Place.
She said it was ”outrageous in this day and age” that attacks such as this happened in broad daylight with children possibly around.
”People shouldn’t have to live with such meaningless violence,” she said. ”I would back the police to take the strongest line against knife crime and my heart goes out to the victim and his family.
”It must have been terrible to see and kids could have been around when it happened.
”I am on the Stobswell Community Planning Partnership along with the police and I will be raising this with their representatives at the next meeting to see what measures can be taken.”
Theresa Smith said: ”He just said: ‘I’m bleeding too much and I need an ambulance’. I phoned the ambulance and the police phoned back straight away, so he was just sat in the closie bleeding.
”I was in shock it’s not every day someone comes to your door bleeding badly. He had about six or seven stab wounds.”
Neighbours said the area around the park and nursery that sit off Brown Constable Street were cordoned off as police carried out detailed searches.
Witnesses also reported seeing the force’s dog unit at work trying to track scents in and around the streets.
One resident told of the usually quiet cul-de-sac she lives in coming to life with police activity during Saturday evening, shortly after the stabbing took place.
She said: ”They had a cordon all around the park and the entrances. Nobody was allowed out or in. There were police dogs as well as lots of police in uniform.”
Police last night said no one had been arrested yet and the victim had left the hospital himself on Saturday night.
A spokesman for the force said: ”Tayside Police are making investigations following an altercation in the area of Victoria Street, Brown Constable Street and Callander Gardens, Dundee about 4.40pm on Saturday.
”A male was assaulted with a weapon and suffered injuries to his head and body. He was conveyed to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee by ambulance, but his injuries are not life threatening.”
Anyone with any information should call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
