Two people have been charged with breaches of the peace over the disorder at Tannadice during Dundee United’s clash with Dynamo Moscow earlier this month.
The move was confirmed on the eve of UEFA’s meeting today to decide whether or not to take disciplinary action against United.
Fans convicted of fighting at the Europa League clash on August 2 could be banned for life from every stadium in the country.
Police believe up to eight people were involved in trouble on the night, and they are continuing to investigate the incident.
Match commander Chief Inspector Sean McKillop said: ”We will recommend, where it is appropriate, that football banning orders are put in place. We will recommend the use of the new legislation that will effectively ban them from all football matches across the UK, not just Tannadice.
”It is entirely down to the courts to decide whether that is relevant but we have the chance to request that.”
Mr McKillop said Dundee United were also keen to make sure any fans convicted of fighting were given a lifetime ban.
Dundee United were hit with two UEFA charges after the match on August 2. The club have also launched their own internal investigation.
