Firefighters in Dundee were called to a blaze in a top-floor flat in Arklay Street on Wednesday afternoon.
Two engines from Kingsway East attended and police closed the road at Clepington Road and Sandeman Street, with buses and cars being diverted around the incident.
It is thought the fire was sparked by a tumble dryer but watch manager Fraser Johnston said the cause was still under investigation.
He said: ”On arrival there was a lot of smoke issuing. Crews were sent in using breathing apparatus with a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and ventilate the property.
”All other occupants of the tenement were accounted for.”
Firefighters continued working on the flat, cutting away and damping down to make it safe.
Watch manager Johnston said there was extensive damage to the bedroom involved and smoke damage to the rest of the property.
He added: ”The tumble dryer was definitely involved but we have still to determine the cause.”
Owner Gwen Lawrence (47), whose son was in the flat at the time, said she was thankful everyone got out safely.
She said: ”We’ve heard there’s smoke damage throughout the house. It could have been so much worse at least it’s not a life.”
