Police appeal for information about serious assaults

Police in Dundee are conducting an investigation after a man and a teenage girl were assaulted in separate incidents in the city recently.

The 39-year-old man suffered serious eye damage after receiving a severe beating at the hands of two thugs.

The victim who has not been named was walking in Abbotsford Street close to its junction with Blackness Road on Saturday night when he was approached by two men.

The duo attacked the man and knocked him to the ground before launching into a brutal and sustained assault in which they returned to attack their victim repeatedly.

The onslaught was only brought to an end when a Good Samaritan possibly a taxi driver spotted what was happening and intervened.

The motorist then helped the man into his car before taking him to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.

The man sustained cuts to his arm, head and forehead in the attack and was left with bruising across his stomach, shoulder and knee.

His left eye socket suffered “considerable trauma” and he was also left with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

Police yesterday said they were anxious to speak to the driver who came to the man’s aid and also wished to speak to anyone who was in the area at around 6.30pm when the assault took place.

Detective Inspector Gary Ogilvie said, “We have got a number of positive lines of inquiry that we are following up and we are hopeful that the individuals who are responsible will be traced.

“The bottom line is this male was injured sufficiently that he had to go to hospital, although he was released after examination and treatment.”13-year-old girl assaultedMeanwhile, a 13-year-old girl was left unconscious with a wound to her head after being hit by a glass object on Saturday night.

The girl was walking with three other teenagers in Lochee High Street between 9.30 and 10.15 when she was struck by the mystery object.

She was knocked out for a short time by the force of the blow but came round to find that she had an open wound to her head.

She went to Ninewells Hospital following the incident and doctors had to insert a number of stitches to close the wound.

Police yesterday appealed to anyone with information to come forward, and said they were keen to speak to anyone who was in High Street near to its junction with Sinclair Street and close to the Albert Bar on Saturday night.

Pub leaseholder Kenny Black said officers had visited the pub in the aftermath of the incident as part of their inquiries.

He said, “The police came in here on Saturday night and I spoke to them but I couldn’t really help them. They didn’t give too much detail but just said a girl had been hit.

“They came in and did ask if anyone saw or heard anything but no one did.”

Anyone with information about either of the incidents should call 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
