Dundee indie rockers The View took time out to spend a day with four lucky fans to help promote their home city.
Winner Lesley Reid, a fashion student from Glasgow, who entered a competition to win a day out with the band, landed the prize to meet the four stars along with three of her friends Stephen Whyte, Sorcha Lucina Tams and Mark Sweeney.
The musicians, who recently released their third album, Bread And Circuses, are all from Dryburgh and grew up in the city. As part of the day’s activities, lead singer Kyle Falconer and his bandmates Pete Reilly, Kieren Webster and Steven Morrison challenged the four Glaswegians to a quad bike contest at Auchterhouse Country Sports outside Dundee.
Kyle said, “Dundee’s got loads happening in the city and we love helping promote our home town when we get the time.
“We’ve had a great laugh with Lesley and her pals on the quads but we’re definitely going to need more practice!”
Lesley, who came out top from the hundreds of fans who entered the competition, could not believe it when she won.
As a permanent memento of the day the winners were also presented with their own caricature featuring another icon of the city, Desperate Dan, which was specially drawn by a DC Thomson artist.
“When I heard I’d won I thought they were joking. It’s been unbelievable spending time with the guys.
“I’ve never been quad biking before but it’s a pretty good way to learn!
“And it has been great to come to the View’s home city as we’ve had a chance to see what’s going on in Dundee we’ll be back,” said Lesley.
The Facebook competition was run as part of Dundee’s marketing campaign to attract a new young audience from within Scotland’s central belt, highlighting Dundee’s many surprising facts that people from outside the city might not be aware of.
Dundee has a strong reputation as a launch pad for great talent.
Snow Patrol, The View, and KT Tunstall are just a few musicians that have originated from the area, as well as being home to cult music bible Clash magazine.
