A Dundee man has told of the moment he came to the rescue of a woman trapped in her car following a collision near a major Dundee junction.
Mark Jones stopped when he saw the mangled wreck of a turquoise vehicle, which crashed into a road sign on the Kingsway A90 near the junction with Forfar Road on Saturday night.
The woman was lucky to escape without major injuries but her car appears to be a write-off.
Mark, 33, said: “I was driving by when I spotted the accident, which was only a hundred yards from the Shell garage.
“It appeared to be a collision with a signpost as the driver came up to the traffic lights at 11.40pm.
“I was worried because there was some smoke coming from the car and I thought it might go on fire.
“The driver was initially trapped in the vehicle due to the driver’s side door being jammed shut in the collision.
“A taxi driver was already there trying to get her out of the airbag.
“After some assistance she was able to get out through the passenger’s side, walking away seemingly unharmed.
“The fire crew on the scene were unable to clear the wreckage due to the position of the vehicle against the sign for fear of it collapsing into oncoming traffic.
“I’d seen car accidents before but this one looked bad so I just wanted to make sure the driver was OK.”
Police, ambulance and the fire service attended the incident, during which there were no charges and no one taken to hospital.
A police spokeswoman said: “We attended a one-vehicle accident at 11.39 on Saturday. A female had collided with a road sign. There were no arrests or injuries but the car is a mess.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews secured the vehicle but did not need to cut the woman out of it, as she had got out prior to their arrival.
A Scottish Ambulance spokesman added: “We responded to a request to attend a road traffic accident. One ambulance attended.
“The driver would have been checked over at the scene but was not taken to hospital.”
