Woman requires treatment after blaze at Hilltown multi-storey

A woman had to be treated with oxygen following a blaze in the Hilltown.
Firefighters received the call to Bonnethill Court at 8.41pm on Monday and two appliances from Blackness Road and two from MacAlpine Road were sent to the scene.
The fire started in a tumble drier on the fifth floor of the 14 storey block of flats and crews in breathing apparatus used one main jet to extinguish the fire.
The two occupants managed to escape before the crew arrived and one woman required oxygen treatment from crews and then treatment from paramedics for smoke inhalation.
Local Risk Manager for Dundee East, Station Manager Stuart Cuthill, said: “The crews were on scene very quickly and using their high rise procedures quickly located and extinguished the fire.
“They then used small tools to check for fire spread in the affected area inside the flat and thereafter checked the floors above as a precaution. Firefighters then made sure the flat was properly ventilated.”
The occupants of the flat arranged alternative accommodation due to the fire.
