Motorists faced gridlock on one of the major roads into Dundee this morning.
As pupils returned to school from the two-week October break, drivers were confronted with a series of roadworks to negotiate.
The predicted chaos did not arrive but roadworks at the Claypotts Junction slowed traffic to a crawl or brought it to a complete halt.
There were huge tailbacks on the A92 Arbroath Road, with drivers having to sit in traffic for upwards of 15 minutes to get through roadworks.
Traffic was backed up beyond the Balgillo junction from around 8.30am and there were also queues on East Balgillo road.See more hereThe right and left turns from Baldovie Road onto Arbroath Road were closed which meant traffic was diverted along Tom Johnston Road or through Douglas.
The roadworks meant many drivers tried to dodge the jams by avoiding the A92 altogether, which led to a build-up of traffic in Broughty Ferry.
Work to refurbish Claypotts junction is supposed to last for four weeks and is part of a two-year programme to renew signals.
However, the Claypotts roadworks were not the only obstacle drivers had to face in Dundee this morning.
There are lane restrictions on Riverside Drive and South Victoria Dock Road remains closed as work to develop the central waterfront area continues.
