The Olympia swimming pool could be closed for up to five weeks for maintenance work in January just 18 months after it was opened.
Among the work scheduled is a deep clean of the pool and the installation of new drying equipment for swimming costumes.
Stewart Murdoch, director of Leisure and Culture Dundee which runs the pool said swimming groups will be relocated to other pools within the city.
The gym, dance studio and caf will still be open as usual.
Mr Murdoch said: “The dates of the closure are still to be confirmed.
“We are getting to the end of the contracted maintenance period and the builder of the pool has responsibility to make good any defects within that time.
“The work will include routine things like a deep clean, remedial works for things coming out of the building and further enhancement.
“We are also taking on board what people have been saying to us, such as the need for a new machine to dry swimming costumes, as the old one wasn’t
working.”
Mr Murdoch added that rather than spreading the work throughout the year, it was saved up so that it could be done during a quiet period.
He said: “After Christmas is our least busy period.
“We used to close the old Olympia for a fortnight every year for maintenance, so there is nothing unusual in this.
“All of our users will be given a month’s notice of any change of programme and we will make special arrangements for swimming groups to relocate to other pools in Dundee.”
