A man who glassed a guest at a Broughty Ferry wedding reception, leaving his victim bleeding and scarred, was jailed for two years at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Gary Cruickshank, 33, “stood and smiled” at Stephen Nelson, after the unprovoked attack at the Woodlands Hotel on June 8.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told Dundee Sheriff Court that the two men, who did not know each other, had both attended the event.
Mr Nelson was smoking a cigarette and began speaking to an unknown male, who made a reference to a local Dundee gang.
Ms Robertson said: “The complainer responded with a similar type comment relating to a different gang. This was all in fun.”
Mr Nelson finished his cigarette and as he did so Cruickshank tapped him on the shoulder.
Ms Robertson said: “As he turned to see who it was, the accused struck him on the left side of the face with a glass tumbler.
“The glass shattered across his face causing him to bleed profusely. The accused said nothing and stood and smiled at him.”
Cruickshank, of Orchard Place, Ayr, admitted assaulting Mr Nelson to his injury and disfigurement on June 8.
