A serial thief who broke into four cars on the same day had been released early from prison just over a month before, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Thomas Clark, 35, of Hilltown Court, was jailed for 14 months by Sheriff Alastair Brown, who also ordered him to be returned to complete the unexpired portion of his previous sentence, 87 days.
Clark admitted that on October 10, on Arthur Street, he forced open a Ford Fiesta car and stole a navigation unit, a charger and a jacket; and forced open a Fiat Ducato and stole a USB charger.
He further admitted, on Albany Terrace, he forced open a Honda Civic car with intent to steal; and on Hilltown Terrace, forced open a Renault Trivago and stole various items and a pair of gloves.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court Clark had been released early from HMP Perth on a home detention curfew on September 3.
She said he had previous convictions for dishonesty, road traffic, drugs and vandalism offences dating back to 1995.
Two witnesses were in their home and heard loud banging noises, Ms Robertson said, and when they looked out they saw the accused carrying either a baseball bat or a hammer with a long shaft.
He made off and was followed by one of the witnesses, who pointed him out to the police who arrested him, she said.
