A 76-year-old man collapsed and died in the audience at a Dundee school nativity.
Emergency services were called to Clepington Primary at about 2pm on Thursday and the performance was cancelled while a nurse and doctor who were in the audience tried to revive the man.
A witness said the children were backstage and did not witness the traumatic event.
“The play was meant to start at 2pm and everybody was just settling down for it when the man collapsed,” the witness said.
“The hall was filling up and then all of a sudden people just started standing up and moving chairs out of the way. There was a lot of commotion.
“A girl went across because she was a nurse, so she was trying to revive him.
“Thankfully the kids didn’t see any of it because they were still behind the curtain, but there was a lot of tension in the air. I think everyone was shocked.”
Another eyewitness added: “I was sitting right behind him. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”
A Dundee City Council spokesperson said: “The nativity play was cancelled yesterday due to an incident.
“It has now been rescheduled for next Thursday.”
