Around 200 extra jobs at Overgate in run up to Christmas
ByThe Courier Reporter
Nearly 200 extra jobs have been created at Dundee’s Overgate as retailers in the centre increased its overall employment figure by 13% in the run up to Christmas.
With stores including Debenhams, JD Sports, River Island, Top Shop and Next recruiting large numbers for the festive season, centre management say the temporary jobs have been created to ensure shoppers enjoy efficient service, despite the busy time of year.
The new employees will also be an asset ahead of the Boxing Day and New Year sales when the centre is again expected to experience a significant increase in footfall.
Malcolm Angus, Overgate centre manager, said: “We are happy to be say we have created almost 200 jobs in Dundee over the Christmas period.
“Local employment and ongoing employment opportunities is something the centre is keen to support in any way we can, and the hope is a percentage of these Christmas temps will be kept on in a permanent position.”
The centre will be open until 9pm each Thursday until Christmas to allow extra time for buying gifts.
