Dundee University professor’s tsunami role in TV spotlight

Professor Sue Black’s work to identify victims of the Asian tsunami of 2004 is featured on a television documentary being shown this week.
Professor Black was part of the disaster response team who attended the aftermath of the devastating tsunami, travelling to the area on New Year’s Eve 2004 and spending the next month there dealing with the grim task of identifying some of the thousands who had been killed.
Professor Black is Director of the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) at the University of Dundee, one of the world’s foremost institutions for the study and application of human anatomy, forensic human identification, disaster victim identification and forensic and medical art. It was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education 2014.
She is among those featured in the documentary After The Wave, which was made in Australia and has its UK premiere on the Discovery UK channel on Friday December 19 at 9pm.
