Man jailed for ear biting in fight outside Dundee nightclub

A man who bit off part of another man’s ear in a fight has been jailed for more than two years outside a nightcloub in Dundee.

The city’s Sheriff Court heard the victim had to have surgery to have the bitten-off piece reattached and he faces further surgery involving harvesting a piece of cartilege from elsewhere on his body after the incident outside Deja Vu.

Appearing on Tuesday, Dean Rasche, 24, a prisoner at HMP Perth, pleaded guilty on indictment to a charge of assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement while subject to two bail orders.

Depute fiscal Vicki Bell told the court: “He underwent surgery under general anaesthetic to reattach the piece of ear.

“There is a triangular piece of tissue that will require further reconstructive surgery.”

Solicitor Paul Parker Smith, defending, said: “He says that when the fight was ongoing he was bitten on the finger and he reciprocated by biting the most convenient point which was on his ear.”

“He knows he faces a prison sentence and throws himself on the mercy of the court.”

Rasche was jailed for two years and four months.
