The owner of a Dundee clothing company has promised to give all of his firm’s profits from the next year to charity.
Jamie Shankland is sole proprietor of Marble Boy Clothing, a fashion chain which helps undiscovered designers and students get their products onto market.
Now Jamie has launched Share A Smile, which will see all proceeds from the sale of Marble Boy Clothing items in 2015 given to charity.
He said: “When I set the company up it was never about generating revenue or making money. For me it was about doing good and giving something back to the local community and having fun in between.
“There is more to life than money and there are some things money can’t buy.”
Jamie added: “Share a Smile is about giving something back to the local community.
“We have in a very short time build up a solid online following and the brand is going from strength to strength. I want to piggy back on the success of this and give something back. That’s why we are donating 100% of our profits to local causes.”
Jamie also owns an oil and gas consulting company and hopes Marble Boy Clothing will prove that fashion and philanthropy can mix.
“Marble Boy has always been a side project for me, it was always about helping other people,” he said.
“It was never about me and let’s be honest. who wouldn’t love having their own clothing line and helping to design clothing – it’s so much fun.”
Jamie will rely on customers’ suggestions on which good causes should benefit from Marble Boy’s profits over the next 12 months.
The 25-year-old became a local celebrity after spending £1,000 getting a picture of the traditional old Dundee meeting place beneath the H Samuel clock tattooed on his arm.
A video of Jamie being refused entry to Dundee University Students’ Association because, he claimed, of his tattoos went viral when he posted it online.
