Dundee’s singing taxi driver has shown home is where the heart is by releasing a charity CD to help the city’s disadvantaged children.
Jimmy Smart became an internet sensation when his taxi renditions of Michael Bubl’s hits were captured on camera and posted on YouTube.
The 53-year-old has taken a leaf out of Band Aid’s book and produced his own charity CD, with his own take on Bubl’s hits, Let It Snow and Home.
The money raised will be donated to Dundee charity Help For Kids, which raises funds to support disadvantaged, sick and vulnerable children.
Jimmy said: “I wanted to do something for Christmas for a kids charity.
“A lot of charities care for kids all over Britain, but this one cares specifically for those in Dundee, so that is why I chose to donate to them.”
Jimmy is still on a high after getting the chance to duet with his musical idol in front of 11,000 people at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.
He added: “Things have gone a bit crazy after singing with Michael Bubl. I hope to do a bigger CD next year and have that released.
“Once people get in the taxi there is always a lot of requests for songs. I don’t mind as long as they enjoy their journey.”
On Monday, Jimmy was helping promote the Eagle Coaching Inn charity CD, also in aid of Help For Kids, with a live performance in the city’s Murraygate.
The Eagle Inn CD was the idea of Andy Goudie and Kevin Webb, who produced the album which featured 16 different singers, including 94-year-old John Henderson.

The CD has already sold 400 copies and can be purchased for £5 at the Overgate, Scott Brothers, Jessie’s Kitchen, Grouchos, the Glass Pavilion and the Eagle Coaching Inn.
Jimmy’s CD, which was recorded at Gardyne Studios, is for sale in the Queen Anne, Kettle Drum and Last Tram pubs.
