A taxi driver is facing a £300 repair bill after a vandal ran over the top of his cab.
George Aimer, 58, of city firm St Andrews Cabs, was shocked to return to his Volvo S80 near the junction of Strathmartine Road and Symers Street to find someone had run across the top of it smashing the sunroof.
George said he was frustrated because he was only in the area to deliver a Christmas card to a friend when the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday.
He said: “I had received a card earlier in the day, so wanted to return the favour.
“Recently, I was diagnosed as diabetic so, to stay fit, I take a half-an-hour walk at some point when I’m out working nightshift.
“I left the car at around 11.55pm on Tuesday at that time there were a few heading home from the pub, but not too many people around.”
When George returned to the car at around 12.30am he noticed the damage.
“He suspects that the person responsible may have been returnng from a night at the pub.
He said: “When I came back to the car I noticed that the sunroof was damaged, so called the police and waited for them to come out,” he said.
“When the officers came they noticed footprints on the windscreen.
“I have taken the car for repair, but they don’t have the part so something temporary has been put in place in the meantime.”
He added: “Hopefully the temporary repair will mean I can still get out and work.”
Police Scotland confirmed it was investigating the vandalism. Anyone with information that could assist officers should contact police on 101.
